Our blog

WhatsApp, the free call, video call & messaging app, has made staying connected with friends, family & colleagues extremely easy. Not only on a one on one basis but with multiple people at the same time through its ‘groups’ feature. Let’s be honest, we all are a member of at least one WhatsApp group. Some of us are even the group admins.

While WhatsApp groups can be fun & informative, it can also be one of the reasons for your phones’ low memory space. As visual content is most impactful, a lot of images & videos are shared through WhatsApp in high numbers. And ‘groups’ makes it a lot easier due to its reach to a larger audience within a single click.

As a result, the number of pictures & videos in your phone’s gallery keeps rising every day.

Thankfully, WhatsApp has a setting feature that ceases any kind of media file received from a particular ‘group’ from being stored on your phone.

Here’s a step by step process on how to do it:

Step 1: Open WhatsApp and open the group you want to turn the automatic media download off for.

Step 2: Click on the three dots in the top right corner.

Step 3: Select ‘Group info’ from the drop-down menu.

Step 4: Go to ‘Media visibility.’

Step 5: Select ‘No’ & press ‘Ok’.

Your setting will be changed. Now, any media file will not automatically be saved to your phone unless you download it.

We hope you loved this simple hack, as much as we did, and find it useful!
